SUMMARY

The Shipper is responsible for verifying, inspecting, and maintaining records of incoming and outgoing shipments. This role involves inspecting products, verifying packing lists, Bills of Lading (BOL), and utilizing electronic freight websites for shipping documentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Receiving Responsibilities:

  1. Verifying, inspecting, and counting delivered items
  2. Unloading, sorting, and storing items in designated areas
  3. Processing receiving and returns transactions through computer systems
  4. Tagging and labeling items according to departmental procedures
  5. Maintaining a clear dock area and outside unloading space for incoming materials
  6. Executing housekeeping tasks, including mopping, sweeping, and trash disposal
  7. Breaking down cardboard boxes for recycling
  8. Following written and verbal instructions to perform tasks accurately
  9. Maintaining a safe work environment and keeping tools and equipment organized
  10. Performing other shop duties as needed
  11. Operating pallet jacks and hand trucks to move shipments

Shipping Responsibilities:

  1. Constructing wooden crates for shipping equipment securely
  2. Boxing equipment in standard boxes or affixing to pallets
  3. Determining optimal methods for supporting and shipping products
  4. Managing the shipping of finished products and materials
  5. Examining outgoing products to ensure compliance with packing list specifications
  6. Training on oxygen cleaning requirements for equipment
  7. Verifying packing lists to confirm all items are correct and in good condition
  8. Maintaining inventory of shipping materials and supplies
  9. Utilizing UPS and Federal Express World Ship systems for daily shipments
  10. Handling Bills of Lading (BOL) paperwork
  11. Coordinating dedicated loads with shipping companies
  12. Operating sit-down propane forklifts for shipping and receiving
  13. Loading and unloading crates and materials from trailers
  14. Understanding shipping terms such as prepaid, third party, and collect
  15. Affixing shipping labels or stencils on packed cartons

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma, GED, or technical school; at least two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to:

  1. Safely utilize power tools and hand tools
  2. Read a tape measure accurately
  3. Drive a forklift (certification required)
  4. Count accurately for inventory management
  5. Follow directions and work independently
