Key Responsibilities:

The Glasshouse Systems Lead will oversee the planning and management of glasshouse logistics, ensuring seamless delivery of events according to the crop production schedule. This role involves facility automation, irrigation activities, water systems, and climate control to deliver optimal outcomes for crop health and productivity.

  • Plan and manage the cultivation and cropping program irrigation on over 3000m2 of flowering canopy, aligning with sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with the cultivation manager to review and adjust cropping climate, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead selected automation-aided production events in the facility, from cuttings/planting/flower spacing through to harvest.
  • Coordinate table logistics with cultivation leads, staff, and management to impact facility production and overtime spend.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot and repair glasshouse systems assets.
  • Serve as the Logiqs automation software lead from the operations-side (Logiqs SME).
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and service provider contacts to enhance overall business performance.
  • Inform cost changes, shipment issues, and supply concerns to the appropriate departments in a timely manner.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, material flow improvement, and business development related to yield and crop performance.
  • Accountable for operation spending; budget management, review, and refinement.
  • Initiate and participate in actions to improve processes and performance of operations, including working with other facility and functional representatives.
  • Provide project management support for facility operations and corporate initiatives.
  • Manage inventory levels, ensuring that changes are promptly and accurately recorded for irrigation and cultivation teams.
  • Manage data for the area of responsibility to maintain regular reporting and performance updates.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary or Diploma qualifications in Science, Agricultural Science, Production Horticulture, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Pre-employment Security and Health Screening.
  • Applicants with trade qualifications or experience in a similar role in glasshouse horticulture or controlled environment agriculture will also be considered.
  • Experience operating comparable software systems (Priva or Hoogendoorn) in a glasshouse environment, semi-closed glasshouse/controlled environment agriculture (CEA) facility.
  • Irrigation systems programming (hardware and software) and a firm theoretical understanding of plant nutrition and hydroponic growing.
  • Large-scale glasshouse or production machinery and automation experience will be considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in leading a team of two direct reports responsible for large work groups.
  • Proven problem-solving ability with similar production-critical tech.
  • Ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Data-driven with a proven track record of growing in a production horticulture environment.
