Job Description

The Senior Lighting Supervisor is a key member of the Moving Picture Company's Visual Effects team, responsible for overseeing the lighting department and ensuring the highest quality of visual effects in our productions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead a team of Lighting Leads and Artists on a specific show, providing guidance and feedback to ensure the delivery of high-quality lighting work.
  • Collaborate with the Research and Development department and the Head of Department to identify and implement new tools and technologies to enhance the lighting process.
  • Participate in daily dailies and desk rounds, providing technical and creative feedback to Lighting Artists and ensuring consistent shot quality.
  • Act as the first line of quality control for the Lighting work on your sequences, identifying and addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Report on the progress of the Lighting work on the show to the Head of Department, providing regular updates and insights.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG rendering and compositing, staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
  • Mentor and support Lighting Leads on the team, providing guidance and training to help them grow and develop in their roles.
  • Monitor and manage the daily progress of the team, working closely with Leads to ensure timely delivery and high-quality results.

Requirements:

  • At least 7 years of production lighting experience and at least 2 years of Lead experience.
  • Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies related to CG rendering and compositing.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven technical and creative ability in a large feature-film VFX production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Excellent understanding of shading, lighting, and rendering terminology, as well as production pipelines and software.
  • Excellent knowledge of PRMan or similar production renderers, node-based compositing software, and Linux/Unix-based operating systems.
  • Python and MEL scripting experience is an advantage.
