Mental Health Nurse Role Overview

The Mental Health Nurse will play a pivotal part in collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and key stakeholders to establish a Mental Health Framework for patients in a health centre environment. This role will require Mental Health SME input into all aspects of developing a Primary Health Mental health service, including eMRS workflows, training and education, policies and procedures, and clinical treatment pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between the clinical team and the ICT team for the development and enhancement of the eMRS.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals to develop evidence-based clinical pathways and guidelines for the treatment and management of common mental health conditions.
  • Provide training and education sessions to staff members within the centre on topics related to mental health awareness, suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, and other relevant subjects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Nursing with post-graduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing.
  • Current unconditional AHPRA registration.
  • Min 5 years of clinical experience working in Mental health, preferably in a forensic setting.

Experience

  • Strong understanding of mental health assessment tools, diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based treatment modalities.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clinical policies and procedures.
