Fleet Underwriting Technical Specialist

Our team is seeking a skilled and experienced Fleet Underwriting Technical Specialist to provide leadership through technical expertise and knowledge. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing guidance and mentoring to support the effectiveness of our market-facing underwriters.

The role will interact with our customers and partners, ensuring we maintain strong relationships that develop opportunities and deliver excellent customer experiences. You will be a focal point for escalation and complex decision making.

Your decisions on complex risk selection and appetite will be critical in delivering on our insurance margin and growth and retention targets. Through your role, we will be able to deliver a consistent customer experience across brands, channels, and products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy:
    - Consistent execution of the market plan set by the National Underwriting Manager.
  • Customer:
    - Customer and Partner NPS
    - Market-facing underwriting activity
    - Support and deliver consistent decision making that supports excellent customer experiences.
    - Through your understanding of the complexity of our customer risks, your role will develop solutions to enhance our performance and propositions in the market.
  • Operational Performance:
    - Through your underwriting and the referral process, manage our adherence to pricing, risk selection, and acceptance guidelines.
    - Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to optimise outcomes, generate opportunity, and resolve complex issues.
    - Through the underwriting referral process and proactive engagement, support the technical development and capability uplift of our underwriters.
    - Provide support and guidance to the National Underwriting Manager for the delegation of, or change in individuals' underwriting licenses.
    - Support for the QA and technical file audit processes.
    - Develop and/or support the development of our appetite into new or emerging opportunities, and identify risk types on areas of risk that should be curtailed.

    - Support the understanding of current underwriting capability and coach and mentor to uplift that capability.
  • Skills & Experience:
    - Previous experience in insurance within a senior underwriter or technical role.
    - An insurance qualification, e.g. ANZIIF Cert IV, and/or tertiary degree or equivalent industry experience (essential)
    - Aided with Guidelines development
    - Relationship/ Stakeholder management - internal and external
    - Evidence of training and upskilling team members
