Chief Legal Expert

Job Overview

• The Senior Corporate Counsel plays a pivotal role in providing legal expertise and counsel to management and subject matter experts on various matters.
• Ensuring compliance with statutes and regulations, this individual researches and performs legal analysis, crafting well-reasoned opinions and memoranda on issues affecting the Bank.
• Reviews, analyzes, edits and drafts vendor contracts and other agreements as assigned, ensuring alignment with Bank policies.
• Anticipating legal issues within areas of specialization, identifies proactive solutions to mitigate risks to the Bank.
• Remains current with the law, staying abreast of changes in statutes and regulations.
• Represents the Bank in System working groups, administrative hearings, and management committees.

Key Responsibilities

• Provides expert counsel to internal staff on complex legal matters.
• Handles vendor agreements, leases, contracts, and general matters with precision.
• Serves as one of the Bank's primary attorneys for complex IT contracts.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Law degree with a license to practice in a relevant jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of experience in a law firm or corporate environment.
• Working knowledge of banking, commercial transactions, vendor/third party agreements, general corporate, disclosures and reporting, capital markets, privacy and data management, financial services, and/or financial institutions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of capital markets, real estate, financial analysis, economics, accounting principles, or financial statements is desired.
• Understanding of or experience working in a regulated industry (banking, mortgage banking, real estate, or financial services insurance) is preferred.
