About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fleet Technician to join our Operations and Maintenance Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for maintaining, testing, and repairing Council's Fleet, ensuring the safety and roadworthy state of all vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Detect and diagnose faults in vehicle engines and parts;
  • Repair and replace worn and defective parts and reassemble mechanical components, referring to service manuals as needed;
  • Perform scheduled services to ensure Council vehicles are always maintained and are in a roadworthy and serviceable condition;
  • Test and adjust mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance;
  • Diagnose and test parts with the assistance of computers;
  • Ensure all activities in the workshop are carried out in accordance with sound safety practices and in compliance with relevant legislation;
  • Coordinate ordering of parts and consumables in line with Council's Procurement Policy;
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the workshop, including booking, prioritizing, and scheduling of all workshop activities;
  • Undertake audits of plant and equipment, log books, and service records;
  • Work with the Fleet Team to ensure all maintenance schedules are programmed and completed on time.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • Mechanical trade qualifications, including a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology and Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade;
  • Several years of experience in fleet maintenance and repairs, including experience with heavy diesel plant, particularly Council vehicles/machinery;
  • Demonstrated welding and fabrication skills;
  • Successful completion of pre-employment medical check;
  • Current Victorian drivers license (Heavy Rigid);
  • Forklift license (LF) and other plant licenses would be considered an advantage.
