This is a practical career opportunity for individuals seeking hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles.
The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship involves working under the guidance of experienced professionals to develop skills and knowledge in mechanical activities, including inspecting, servicing, and repairing vehicles and equipment.
You will be based at our Oak Flats Services Depot and complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology course at Shellharbour TAFE. This program provides both theoretical and practical training, allowing you to gain a strong foundation in the trade.
A key aspect of this role is the potential for long-term career growth. After completing your apprenticeship, you will have four years of practical experience and formal qualifications, enabling you to pursue additional certifications such as Medium Rigid (MR) truck licenses, forklift tickets, and loader competency.
We are committed to fostering a skilled workforce and offer ongoing training, guidance, and support from workplace mentors. You will also receive approved leave to attend TAFE and enjoy a tool allowance.
Our Cadet, Apprentice, and Trainee (CAT) Program aims to create job opportunities and a talent pipeline for specialized roles, while developing future leaders through employment opportunities and professional development experiences that complement related courses of external tertiary study.
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the delivery of objectives in the Works and Service Business Unit. As a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice, you will play a vital role in supporting our Workshop and Fleet team.

Benefits- Temporary full-time position up to 4 years
- 38 hours per week with access to a 9 Day-fortnight
- Salary range: $601.70 - $827.40 per week
- On-the-job training
- Compulsory course costs paid by Council
- Approved leave to attend TAFE
- Tool allowance
- Must complete a Pre-placement Medical examination
- Must obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) prior to commencement
