Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic – Shellharbour City Council

Location: Oak Flats Services Depot

Overview

Join to apply for the Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic role. You will support the Workshop and Fleet team and gain practical skills in mechanical activities to positively contribute to the objectives of the Works and Service Business Unit.

What you will do

This apprenticeship provides on-the-job and off-the-job training. You will participate in practical mechanical activities and contribute to servicing and repairing vehicles and mechanical equipment.

Program and qualifications
  • You will complete a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology course at Shellharbour TAFE.
  • Open to school leavers, mature age applicants and/or those who have already commenced the Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.
Career path and tickets

After completing the apprenticeship you will have formal qualifications with four years of practical experience and may gain additional tickets such as Medium Ridge (MR) truck licence, forklift ticket, loader competency and more.

Council CAT program

The Cadet, Apprentice and Trainee (CAT) Program aims to grow Council's skilled workforce by creating job opportunities and a talent pipeline for specialised roles, with employment opportunities and professional development experiences that complement external study. CAT participants receive ongoing training, guidance and support from workplace mentors while completing a nationally recognised qualification.

We offer
  • Temporary Full time up to 4 years (or for the duration of the apprenticeship)
  • 38 hours per week with a 9 Day fortnight
  • Salary range from $601.70 per week to $827.40 per week
  • On-the-job training
  • Compulsory course costs paid by Council
  • Approved leave to attend TAFE
  • Tool allowance (metal and mechanical trades)
