Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Building Services Engineer to assist the Senior Building Services Engineer within the Installation and Facilities Management Group. The successful candidate will engage with the Mechanical Building Services Infrastructure team and provide essential support for Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the technical assessment and comprehension of proposed modifications or enhancements to existing systems, including the production of technical reports.
  • Assist in generating specifications and analyzing tenders for medium-sized installation contracts, including pre-tender and post-contract project management, planning, cost control, payment certification, and test witnessing, in close collaboration with the procurement department.
  • Conduct problem-solving and fault diagnosis on all mechanical services on-site, encompassing air conditioning, chilled water, process cooling water, hot and cold-water systems, MTHW/LTHW systems, compressed air, refrigeration, drainage, industrial gases, and associated control systems.
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of infrastructure LEV systems in accordance with HSG258 standards.
  • Provide support and guidance to scientific equipment owners/users regarding compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR), developing procedures for testing and change control (training will be provided).
  • Collaborate with and supervise external consultants, contractors, service engineers, and suppliers, including overseeing design and build contracts.
  • Assist in managing and supervising commissioning for small to medium-sized projects to ensure adherence to relevant building services codes of practice.
  • Support the development of operational systems within building services and advise senior management on the pros and cons of relevant proposals.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all Quality Assurance documentation.
  • Conduct safety risk assessments and prepare method statements or evaluate third-party safety submissions.
  • Participate in Health and Safety and Quality Assurance procedures as appropriate to the role.
  • Assist with additional related duties to fulfill the needs of the Installation and Facilities Management Group.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of an ONC qualification in Building Services Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Relevant on-the-job experience will also be considered.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with MTHW, LTHW, chilled/process cooling water, compressed air, drainage, and domestic water systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and LEV systems.
  • Familiarity with Health and Safety legislation.
  • Understanding of PSSR2000 Regulations and LEV (HSG258).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.
  • Experience with Quality Control Systems, Work Planning, and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Proven ability to supervise others effectively.
