The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Director, Encrypted Criminal Communications. This position is a key part of our organization's efforts to combat serious and organized crime, and we are looking for someone who can provide strategic direction and leadership in this area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive Capability Development: Maintain awareness of the encrypted criminal communications environment to ensure effective techniques are used to deliver the agency's capability.
  • Advanced Technical Understanding: Possess a deep understanding of related technical capabilities, techniques, and legislative frameworks required to deliver against the agency's intelligence requirements.
  • Compliance and Governance: Lead and implement best practice processes to ensure compliance with legislative provisions governing covert collection tools and activities.
  • Strategic Direction: Set strategic direction, vision, and priorities, and establish effective business processes for the section.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships with Commonwealth, law enforcement partner agencies, and private industry.
  • Leadership and Oversight: Provide leadership and oversight of a nationally dispersed workforce, including building capability in a team environment through coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.

We are looking for a highly experienced professional with a strong track record of leading complex teams and developing strategic direction. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proven Leadership Experience: Demonstrated ability to lead a dynamic team to meet deadlines in a complex and technical operational environment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated experience developing and managing complex internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently communicate at all levels, together with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Statutory and Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrated experience applying, and detailed working knowledge of, statutory, regulatory, oversight, and policy frameworks relevant to the delivery of the capability.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge and prior practical experience relevant to the role, including a detailed understanding of technical intelligence collection techniques and methodologies.
  • Risk Management: Demonstrated ability to use sound judgement to analyse operational practices, assess and manage risk, and implement changes to deliver operational and strategic outcomes.

  • Citizenship: To be eligible for employment with the ACIC, applicants must be an Australian citizen.
  • Security Clearance: The Australian community expects ACIC employees to maintain the highest levels of security and integrity. Successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
