About the Role

ALPA is seeking an experienced Industrial Operations Manager to oversee the successful operation of our mechanic workshop in Lajamanu. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising, quoting, diagnosing, undertaking, and charging for mechanical repairs within the competency of a light vehicle mechanical tradesperson and workshop manager.

The Location

Lajamanu is a vibrant Warlpiri community located on the northern edge of the Tanami Desert in the tropics. With a population of around 750 people, including the smaller outstation Lultju, Lajamanu offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Indigenous culture while providing essential services to the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the daily operations of the mechanic workshop, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Quote and diagnose mechanical repairs, using your expertise to provide accurate assessments and recommendations.
  • Undertake and charge for mechanical repairs, maintaining high standards of workmanship and quality.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve workshop efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless integration of services and achieve overall organizational goals.

Requirements:

  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent based on a 4-year apprenticeship in mechanical vehicle trades.
  • Significant experience in diagnosing faults and repairing 4wd vehicles, with a strong understanding of light vehicle mechanical systems.
  • Proven track record of excellent interpersonal skills, including proficient written and oral communication skills, adaptable to meet the needs of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience using electronic stock control and invoicing systems, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • An unrestricted NT C class driver's license or ability to obtain.
