Job Title: Legal Expert

The WATAN Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Expert to join its team in Melbourne.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice, analyzing and identifying legal issues, and offering legal expertise in different matters.

  • Graduates of Law Faculties (completion of law internship will be an asset).
  • Having competency on Human Rights Law, Refugee Law at the national and international level.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of professional experience.
  • Having high communication skills and speaks fluently and effectively.
  • Having a good command of English.
  • Knowledge of human rights law.
  • Experience or interest in crisis context.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement coordinated protection strategies for refugees.
  • Meet with refugees to provide guidance and orientation on their rights under domestic and international legislative frameworks.
  • Provide comprehensive legal support and counseling services through a personalized approach.
  • Respond to legal queries from staff and beneficiaries.
  • Collaborate closely with other staff, specialists, and interpreters at the Info Hub.
  • Conduct legal awareness sessions for staff members and beneficiaries as needed.
  • Refer vulnerable cases to relevant stakeholders, UN agencies, or NGOs when necessary.
  • Accompany vulnerable referred cases to relevant organizations when deemed necessary.
  • Conduct ongoing research and stay up-to-date on relevant legal developments.
  • Monitor national and international news outlets for relevant social, legal, and political updates.
