Job Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Associate to the Honourable Justice Gorton.

The successful candidate will work in the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, where they will be responsible for preparing research and briefing memoranda, assisting with judgments, performing administrative tasks, and speaking in court.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing research and briefing memoranda and assisting in the production of judgment papers and presentations.
  • Performing administrative tasks, including maintaining Court records and preparing material for use by the Judge in court.
  • Speaking in court, empanelling juries, taking verdicts and arraigning the accused.
  • Liaising with court staff, the public, the media and the profession.

Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to convey information confidently and accurately over the telephone, in person, and via written communication.
  • Excellent proofreading and writing skills, proficiency in grammar, and an excellent academic record.
  • Qualification in Law with 1-2 years post-admission experience desirable.
