Aquaculture Specialist

We are seeking an exceptional Aquaculture Specialist to join our Fish Health department at Huon Aquaculture Company Pty Ltd, the first salmon producer in Australia to achieve RSPCA approved certification.
About the Role
- Undertake sampling, health checks, and investigations at our marine or hatchery sites.
- Coordinate the operation of hatcheries to promote fish health, taking into account environmental and market factors.
- Enforce animal welfare and biosecurity compliance within our operational teams.
- Keep up-to-date on salmon industry best practices.
- Work with research bodies to assist with data collection, analysis, and conclusive reporting of results for collaborative fish health projects.
- Maintain, monitor, and evaluate records of farming activities and plan production accordingly.
- Select, train, and supervise staff and contractors when required to raise awareness of VHP.
- Evaluate laboratories and fish health workstations for cleanliness and stock levels, actively promoting best husbandry practices, assisting with gill checking activities as required, and ensuring administrative tasks are completed.
This role operates on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster, offering a minimum annual salary of $70,000 + super. The primary location is at Huon's Southern site, with regular travel to other Marine and Freshwater sites across Tasmania.
About You
- You possess adept communication skills and can build meaningful relationships.
- You have experience in collecting and analysing data, communicating results in a clear and concise manner.
- You are willing to help out other teams with operational or administrative tasks when required.
- You contribute positively to a productive and friendly team environment.
- You're self-motivated with a track record of contributing to continuous improvement of systems and procedures.
- You're experienced and competent in the Microsoft Office suite.
- You have a strong understanding of fish biology, water chemistry, and marine and freshwater production cycles.
- A coxswains or experience on boats is desirable.
- A current and valid drivers licence.
- Bonus points if you're already familiar with Huon's visions and values.
