About the Role

As a key member of our Fish Health department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of our salmon. Reporting to the Fish Health Manager, you will be responsible for undertaking critical tasks such as sampling, health checks, and investigations at our marine or hatchery sites.

You will also coordinate the operation of hatcheries to promote fish health, taking into account environmental and market factors. This will involve enforcing animal welfare and biosecurity compliance within our operational teams, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, and working collaboratively with research bodies to assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, experience in collecting and analysing data, and the ability to communicate results clearly and concisely. You will be self-motivated, with a track record of contributing to continuous improvement of systems and procedures, and possess strong technical knowledge of fish biology, water chemistry, and marine and freshwater production cycles.

We are looking for someone who is willing to travel regularly, primarily to Huon's Southern site, with occasional visits to other Marine and Freshwater sites across Tasmania. The successful candidate will be rewarded with a minimum annual salary of $70,000 + super, operating on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster.

  • You have adept communication skills and can build meaningful relationships.
  • You have experience in collecting and analysing data, communicating results in a clear and concise manner.
  • You are willing to help out other teams with operational or administrative tasks when required.
  • You contribute positively to a productive and friendly team environment.
  • You're self-motivated with a track record of contributing to continuous improvement of systems and procedures.
  • You're experienced and competent in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • You have a strong understanding of fish biology, water chemistry and marine and freshwater productions cycles.
  • A coxswains or experience on boats is desirable.
  • A current and valid drivers licence.
