Facilities Engineer Role Overview

The primary objective of a Facilities Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of data center facilities by supervising and performing engineering work. This includes alarm response, fault finding, maintenance, repairs, and modification of equipment relating to controls, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Daily site inspections and checks are crucial for maintaining a safe working environment. The engineer will also be responsible for coordinating and leading preventative maintenance tasks and vendors, as well as overseeing repairs and corrective maintenance efforts.

Complex infrastructure maintenance activities, including switching experience, are essential skills for this role. Collaboration with team members on major repairs and developing procedures for their execution is also required.

Critical switching activities must be coordinated and performed efficiently. Ensuring workplace safety practices are maintained, adhering to approved MOPs (Methods of Procedure), and creating new MOPs for approval are additional responsibilities.

Incidents must be escalated and handled according to established protocols. Capacity management support and assistance to other teams may also be required.

Site Administration Responsibilities
  • Manage access control and security measures to prevent unauthorized entry.
  • Ensure the fire protection system is active and take necessary actions to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain and coordinate site records to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Attend vendor meetings to discuss services and address any issues that may arise.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
  • Hold an Electrical/Engineering degree with exposure/experience in data centers.
  • Possess a team-first mentality and a willingness to learn and develop on the job.
  • Have a strong engineering mindset and experience troubleshooting complex issues related to UPS, STS, LV, HV systems.
  • Sound knowledge of generators, chillers, and mechanical, BMS, and diesel propulsion systems and equipment would be beneficial.
  • HV switching experience in a live environment is highly desirable.
