Digital Communications Specialist

About this role

We are seeking a skilled Digital Communications Specialist to join our team. In this position, you will play a key part in executing our ambitious digital communications strategy by leveraging your expertise in traditional PR/media relations and stakeholder management.

Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, you will work closely with media contacts, external agencies, and internal teams to curate and execute timely, effective, and accurate campaigns. Your responsibilities will include press release and content writing, reviewing, and editing content, media outreach and liaison, campaign and project management, and data collection and research analysis.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Drive the execution of our impactful digital communications strategy.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to create high-quality, engaging content, ensuring factual accuracy and timely publication using best-practice SEO techniques.
• Craft informative media releases targeted at top-tier media outlets, securing coverage that enhances our online presence.
• Stay updated on international news, identifying opportunities and sensitivities for global media outreach.
• Conduct in-depth research to locate and analyse reliable data sources, meticulously cross-checking information for accuracy.
• Serve as a key contact for digital communications agencies, managing projects, performing detailed data reviews, and incorporating stakeholder feedback.
• Edit, proofread, and provide feedback on content across teams.
• Coordinate content and materials through internal and external review processes.
• Monitor media coverage and deliver relevant reporting.
• Innovate new methods to increase awareness of our brand through both traditional and emerging media channels.

Your Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in media relations or content writing, producing and/or pitching compelling stories informed by research, preferably for a customer-facing organisation.
• Experience in project/stakeholder management, handling multiple ongoing projects or stakeholders.
• A strong understanding of search engine optimisation and the benefits of backlinking.
• Experience and enthusiasm for translating complicated topics, research, and analysis into easily digestible messages for consumers.
• Experience in reviewing, editing, and cross-referencing data.
• Basic to intermediate grasp of content management systems (CMS) and content creation tools.
• Proficiency in researching and understanding complex data sets, with the ability to translate them into understandable content for a range of stakeholders and audiences.
• Competence in identifying opportunities for media coverage and pitching data to high-profile journalists and media outlets.
