Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join our rapidly growing team of over 100 experts across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. As a key contributor to our Legal team, you will play a crucial role in helping all areas of the business make commercial decisions in the best interests of Amber Electric Pty.
Key Responsibilities- Provide practical legal advice on a variety of issues, including consumer protection, data privacy and security, and guidance on operational processes to ensure compliance with energy laws and regulations.
- Work closely with our technology and marketing teams to deliver new products and initiatives that help shift Australia to 100% renewable energy.
- Draft and review commercial contracts and legal documents with 3rd parties and our customers.
- Brief external counsel when necessary.
- Respond to requests from regulators and provide feedback on regulations designed for a flexible, 2-way energy grid, along with internal guidance to operationalise new rules.
- Prepare and deliver training materials to up-skill the Amber Electric Pty team.
- Help drive Legal team efficiencies and improvements over time.
- Bachelor of Laws and admitted to practice within an Australian jurisdiction.
- 1-3+ years prior experience as a practising lawyer, or experience in a legal capacity, in one or more of the following fields: energy, regulatory, commercial, corporate, technology.
- A good understanding of the regulatory framework applicable to electricity retailers across the National Electricity Market, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Willing to engage critically with legal and commercial risks and opportunities.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
