We are seeking a Peer Support Specialist who has experienced a suicidal crisis or significant mental health challenges and has developed resilience through their recovery journey. About the Role

In this position, you will:

  • Draw upon your lived experience of a suicidal crisis or mental health challenges, coupled with the strength gained through your recovery journey, to provide non-judgmental, recovery-oriented support to individuals in distress.
  • Offer calm and compassionate support during times of crisis, helping people feel safe, respected, and supported while navigating moments of uncertainty.
  • Collaborate within a compassionate, award-winning team that prioritizes kindness, empathy, and peer-led perspectives.
  • Continuously learn and grow through regular peer-specific supervision, ongoing training, and professional development, while contributing to our organization's strong reputation as a trusted place of safety and hope in the community.

Required Skills and Qualifications

You must possess:

  • A personal lived experience of a suicidal crisis or significant mental health challenge, leading to insight, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose through your recovery.
  • A genuine passion for utilizing your lived experience to empower others, offering genuine hope, empathy, and connection to individuals in distress.
  • An understanding of the power of peer work and meeting people where they are with compassion, dignity, and respect.
  • The Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (Consumer), or commitment to completing these qualifications within 18 months of starting the role.
  • Strong teamwork skills and thrive in collaborative environments that prioritize kindness, safety, and inclusion.
