Job Description

At First People Recruitment Solutions, we are seeking a skilled Environmental Policy Specialist to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Federal Government and contribute to the development of environmental policies that protect Australia's environment.

About the Role

The Environmental Protection Division within the Department is responsible for regulating and managing waste, protecting air quality, and preventing ozone layer depletion. The successful candidate will work closely with the Hazardous Waste team to assess permits for international hazardous waste movements and engage with stakeholders on policy and operational matters relating to e-waste.

The primary focus of this role will be on the domestic implementation of recent amendments to control nonhazardous e-waste, due to come into effect in 2025. This requires strong analytical and research skills to inform evidence-based policy and legislation, as well as effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake research and analysis to develop and support policy and legislation
  • Apply legislation, regulation, and policy frameworks to inform decision-making
  • Prepare and progress domestic policy implementation of e-waste amendments
  • Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders on policy and operational matters
Requirements
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence and build stakeholder relationships
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Experience with RIS and international treaty making processes (desirable)
What We Offer

We offer a competitive APS6 hourly rate contract, notionally through to January 2025, with locations across Australia considered. As this role is with the Federal Government, only Australian citizens holding a baseline clearance or willingness to obtain one will be considered.
