The Office for Autism has launched a pioneering initiative to improve outcomes for Autistic individuals and autism communities. This includes collaborating with government agencies and partners to deliver the State Autism Strategy and Autism Inclusion Charter.
Guided by lived experience and community needs, our work focuses on impactful programs such as the Autism Works in the Community Grants Program and the South Australian Inklings Pilot Program. We are passionate about fostering understanding and breaking down barriers, committed to creating a society where individuals can thrive, families feel supported, and communities are empowered to embrace diversity.
This role provides unique exposure to the Government sector, supporting the Director of the Office of Autism and working closely with stakeholders across government.
You will contribute to inclusive initiatives, support the smooth operation of a purpose-driven office, and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsive, professional, and committed to maintaining a positive and collaborative team culture.
- Manage office correspondence and enquiries, including Ministerial communications and the Office for Autism inbox, by reviewing, drafting, and triaging items to ensure timely, professional, and appropriate responses.
- Maintain the Director's diary, prioritising appointments and supporting efficient scheduling and communication flow.
- Provide general administrative support, including records management, invoice processing, and event support.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including across government and community sectors.
- Contribute to process improvements by reviewing and updating administrative procedures.
- Support project delivery by completing assigned tasks under the guidance of senior staff.
Requirements include:
- Proven experience in administration with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Tertiary qualifications in business administration, public policy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Sound judgement and the ability to recognise when to escalate issues, prioritise competing demands, and respond appropriately to sensitive or time-critical matters.
- Excellent written communication skills for drafting polished documents.
- Warm interpersonal skills to foster positive connections internally and externally.
- Familiarity with digital record-keeping systems and financial processes like invoice management will be highly advantageous.
- Enthusiasm for learning, adaptability, and inclusivity towards diverse communities-including Autistic individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism with all stakeholders is essential.
- Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Must have or be willing to apply for a National Police Check.
