Archivist Digital Specialist
About the Role:The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator, collaborating with staff across the library on the management of RMIT historically significant digital collections.
As part of the university archives team, you will appraise hybrid and born-digital collections, use digital forensics tools and techniques to triage digital material for ingest into the digital preservation system, and develop and support workflows and processes for the acquisition and ongoing stewardship of digital collections.
Key Responsibilities:- Appraise, arrange and describe the hybrid/digital archival collections in the archival content management system.
- Explore digital preservation requirements for a pre-ingest environment including packaging specifications and drafting ingest workflows and procedures for the Library's digital preservation system, Rosetta.
- Investigate solutions to unique issues associated with legacy, obsolete and undocumented file formats.
- Structure and prepare the digital collections for ingest into the Library's digital preservation repository system (Rosetta).
- Collaborate with colleagues to support the ingest, preservation and access of the digital collections into the Library's digital preservation repository system, including the developing procedures and investigating and implementing tools, workflows and processes for acquisition and ingest.
- Ensure digital material is stored and handled in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements and archival management, access and preservation standards.
- Participate in professional networks and consult with industry colleagues about digital preservation and digital curation, exchanging information and advice in relation to best practice and principles.
- Routine tasks such as responding to requests for access to records (paper and digital) 1 day per fortnight.
As a key member of the university archives team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to manage and preserve RMIT's historically significant digital collections. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in digital preservation and curation, and contribute to the growth and development of the team.
