Canberra, ACT, Australia Australian Defence Force Full time

Be a part of the Australian Defence Force's team of skilled tradespeople and embark on a rewarding career as an Electronics Technician.

As an Electronics Technician, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and repairing advanced technical and military hardware onboard ships and ashore. Whether you're an experienced tradesperson or just starting out, you'll receive comprehensive on-the-job training and have the opportunity to specialise in one of four streams: Communications, Sensors, Weapons, or Fire Control.

Key responsibilities will include:

Communications:

  • Maintaining internal communication systems, including broadcast systems and telephone systems
  • Ensuring the reliability of external communication systems, including HF, VHF, UHF radios and satellite communications

Sensors:

  • Diagnosing and repairing navigation and long-range air search RADAR systems and displays
  • Ensuring the integrity of underwater systems, including SONAR, torpedo countermeasures and underwater telephone
  • Maintaining navigation aids, including gyro-compasses, inertial navigation systems and GPS
  • Supporting electronic warfare systems, including electromagnetic signal interrogation systems

Weapons:

  • Ensuring the reliability of weapon systems, including gun, missile and torpedo systems
  • Maintaining hydraulic systems

Fire Control:

  • Supporting ships' combat and fire control systems
  • Maintaining optical tracking systems

As a sailor, you'll also perform additional duties and learn new skills to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the whole ship. This may include ship security, firefighting, boarding party, flood repair, line handling, first aid, flight deck duties, replenishment at sea, medical emergency team member, ammunitioning or ceremonial duties.

Electronics Technicians do not maintain electrical services. If you're interested in working with electrical power generation or high voltage systems, you may be better suited to a role as a Marine Technician.

You'll enjoy a competitive salary package, career stability, opportunities for continuous progression and an adventurous lifestyle, all while making a difference to Australia.
