About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead high-impact projects that harness data analytics, process innovation, and emerging technologies to improve budget decision-making and deliver better outcomes.

As a senior advisor, you will be responsible for collaborating with cross-functional teams across NSW Treasury, including agency-facing teams, IT, and reform units, as well as stakeholders across the NSW public sector.

Your insights will directly inform strategic advice to the Expenditure Review Committee of Cabinet, Treasury's Leadership Team, and the Treasurer's Office.

Key responsibilities include using tools like Snowflake, Power BI, Fabric, SQL, and Python to analyze large-scale financial datasets, identify trends, and generate insights.

You will also explore AI-driven approaches to automate reporting, streamline workflows, and enhance Treasury's analytical capability.

Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience in public sector budgeting, financial systems, and financial analysis, ideally within NSW or a comparable jurisdiction.
  • Proven ability to work with large datasets, applying modelling techniques using SQL, DAX, and Power BI to generate insights and support decision-making.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements, including opportunities for automation and streamlining data workflows.
  • A strong interest in AI-enabled solutions, with curiosity about how emerging technologies can enhance public sector decision-making, data use, and service delivery.
  • Prior experience is not essential; what matters is a willingness to learn and experiment.
