Senior Research Fellow

Job Summary
The University of Western Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Fellow to join our Astrophotonics Research Group. As a key member of the team, you will contribute to cutting-edge research in radio astronomy instrumentation, terrestrial laser links, space laser links, and quantum technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake research under broad direction, collaborating with the Principal Research Fellow and other team members to advance the group's research agenda.
- Mentor and supervise junior research staff, Masters, and PhD students, providing guidance and support to ensure their success.
- Lead research activities, including reporting, documentation, and project management, to ensure the group's research goals are met.
- Develop and maintain expertise in several technical areas, including radio astronomy instrumentation, free-space optics, optical fibre coupling, and optical system design.
- Contribute to the development of systems engineering processes and documentation, ensuring the group's research is well-documented and easily accessible.
- Engage with the broader research community, presenting research findings and collaborating with other institutions to advance the field.
Requirements
- PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other appropriate higher professional qualifications.
- Experience in several of the following technical areas: radio astronomy instrumentation, free-space optics, optical fibre coupling, and optical system design.
- Experience in experimental frequency or quantum metrology, classical and coherent optical communications systems, and quantum technologies.
- Experience in supervising junior research staff, Masters, and PhD students.
- Experience in systems engineering processes and documentation.
- Demonstrable experience of leading public engagement activities that promote research and/or education outcomes, government, and industry.
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles.
