About the Media and PR Specialist Role

Lung Foundation Australia is seeking a highly skilled Media and PR Specialist to lead our media and public relations strategy.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering media and PR activity to increase our brand visibility, promoting awareness of lung disease and cancer.

This involves building strong relationships with key stakeholders, managing proactive and reactive media opportunities, and supporting spokespeople with key messages that ensure brand consistency and integrity.

  • Developing and implementing media strategies to increase brand awareness and engage key audiences.
  • Crafting compelling stories that highlight the experiences of people affected by lung disease and cancer.
  • Contributing to content creation, including newsletters, corporate reports, blogs, and supporter publications.
  • Evaluating media impact and adjusting strategy accordingly.
About You

We are looking for a strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills who understands what it takes to pitch a story to journalists.

You should have a deep understanding of the media landscape and be skilled at identifying and leveraging media opportunities to drive advocacy, action, and raise awareness.

Essential qualifications and attributes include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in media and public relations, ideally within the non-profit or health sector.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing media strategies that increase brand awareness.
  • Exceptional storytelling, writing and editing skills, with experience translating complex subject matter into accessible, engaging content.
  • Experience managing media campaigns, using strategic media relations to drive advocacy, action and raise awareness.
  • Ability to manage on-the-ground media opportunities including press conferences, media interviews and shoots.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
