Ecologist for Indigenous Communities

We are seeking an ecologist to collaborate with indigenous communities in Brisbane, QLD. This is a permanent full-time position that offers flexible working arrangements.

About the Role:

  • Conduct ecological assessments, field surveys, and data collection using scientific methodologies and indigenous ecological knowledge.
  • Collaborate with indigenous communities to incorporate traditional ecological knowledge into environmental monitoring and management plans.
  • Support the development and implementation of sustainable land and resource management strategies, aligning them with indigenous values and practices.
  • Assist in conducting environmental impact assessments and provide recommendations to minimize potential negative effects on the environment and cultural heritage.
  • Engage in community consultation and facilitate workshops to promote environmental awareness and empower indigenous communities.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant research, regulations, and best practices in the field of ecological conservation and indigenous rights.

Requirements:

  • A graduate degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Indigenous background and strong connection to Indigenous cultures, traditions, and ecological knowledge systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities.
  • Passion for environmental conservation, cultural heritage preservation, and indigenous rights.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work in remote areas as required.
  • Knowledge of the local ecosystems and Indigenous communities in central and western Queensland is advantageous.
