About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aboriginal Health Research Specialist to join our team at The University of Western Australia. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and society, as well as experience in research, community engagement, and health promotion.

The successful candidate will work closely with our ORCHID Study team, participating communities, and health services to co-design and implement trial management strategies for pregnant Aboriginal women with prediabetes. They will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of simplified screening approaches for high blood glucose levels in pregnancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with community members, researchers, and health professionals to design and implement culturally sensitive research projects;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, health services, and research institutions;
  • Conduct research, analysis, and reporting on Aboriginal health issues, with a focus on prediabetes in pregnancy;
  • Provide education and training to community members and health professionals on Aboriginal health and wellbeing;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of health promotion programs and materials.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and society, as well as experience working in Indigenous health contexts;
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders;
  • Experience in research design, analysis, and reporting, with a focus on community-based research;
  • A strong commitment to Aboriginal community consultation and control;
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What We Offer

The University of Western Australia offers a competitive salary package, including a base salary of $85,000 - $105,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
