Role Summary
The Research Fellow will be part of a team conducting a study on emergency communication strategies during the 2023 Maui wildfires. The role involves analyzing the information received by residents and tourists before and during the fires, and evaluating how various factors influenced their evacuation decisions and actions.
Main Responsibilities
- Conducting semi-structured interviews with residents, tourists, and stakeholders to analyze the range and impact of information available during the wildfire event
- Developing interview guides, recruitment materials, and submitting RMIT ethics applications
- Conducting qualitative data analysis and reporting results through project reports, journal articles, policy briefs, and presentations
- Participating in a 2–3-week fieldwork trip to Hawaii in Q1 2025
About the Project
The research project aims to guide future strategies for wildfire-prone communities worldwide. The Research Fellow will be responsible for developing and engaging in high-quality research projects aligned with RMIT's focus areas, building productive research networks, and producing impactful research outputs.
Key Selection Criteria
- Evidence of experience in social science research methods, particularly qualitative research methods
- Ability to work autonomously while displaying a strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate research results and concepts in high-quality research outputs
- Mandatory qualifications: PhD or equivalent in a relevant field
