Job Title: Environmental Health Officer

Fraser Coast Regional Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our team. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of the public in a variety of contexts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct inspections, investigations, and compliance actions in relation to Public Health, Environmental Health, and Dangerous Goods Safety Management.
  • Assess and determine compliance of licensed premises and activities, and initiate appropriate action to ensure compliance when required.
  • Manage and supervise the application, approval, and compliance issues associated with regulated activities deemed to be significant.
  • Exercise authorized powers and functions in the administration and enforcement of relevant local laws and Acts relating to nuisances.
  • Provide technical advice, monitoring, and guidance relative to interpretation and communication of Environmental Health legislation.
Requirements:
  • Currently hold or be currently enrolled and actively completing a Degree in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or qualification allowing eligibility for professional membership of Environmental Health Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in the technical components of Environmental Health, including the use of required equipment and an understanding of relevant legislation and local laws.
  • Ability to exercise judgement in the interpretation and application of relevant legislation.
  • Intermediate skills and knowledge in the effective utilization of data systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with compliance complaints handling and/or investigations.
  • High level of communication skills and the ability to influence and educate to encourage voluntary compliance.
