About the Role

The NSW Teaching Service is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Science Department Head to join our team at Brisbane Water Secondary College. As a key member of the school's leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning programs that cater to the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead and manage the Science department, including planning, implementing, and evaluating curriculum programs.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with teachers, staff, and students to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  3. Collaborate with the school executive team to implement whole-school priorities and initiatives, including data-informed practice and professional learning.
  4. Foster a collaborative faculty culture that develops the capacity of others in focusing on data-informed practice and professional learning for an engaging and safe learning environment.
  5. Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes, including literacy and numeracy, enrichment, creative and performing arts, targeted sports, and leadership.
  6. Provide guidance and support to teachers to improve their teaching practices and curriculum implementation.
  7. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Science programs and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning, and classroom practice.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
