The Women and Family Advocate – Housing role at Yourtown is a critical position that provides practical support and interventions to women and children transitioning from Refuge into longer-term, safe, and sustainable accommodation in the community.

Our Domestic and Family Violence Refuge is a welcoming haven for women and their children who have experienced the trauma of domestic/family violence. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the refuge team to assist families in regaining independence and safety.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

Practical Support and Interventions: Providing assistance to increase clients' safety and wellbeing during and post-refuge.

Multilevel Practice Framework: Working through a collaborative lens with the refuge team to address complex needs.

Risk Assessment and Management: Identifying and responding to risks and needs, ensuring a safe environment for all.

Barriers to Housing: Supporting women in addressing obstacles to secure housing and advocating on their behalf with key stakeholders.

Tenancy Establishment and Sustainability: Assisting families to exit temporary accommodation and establish independently sustained tenancies.

Theoretical Knowledge Application: Applying expertise in domestic violence, parenting, attachment, and trauma-informed care to support clients.

We are seeking a flexible and adaptable individual who can work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve best practice outcomes for women and families.

The successful candidate will possess:

Passion and Commitment: A strong passion for supporting young people and families affected by domestic/family violence.

Qualifications and Experience: A diploma-level qualification in Social or Behavioural Sciences, with at least 3 years of direct experience in family and youth services.

Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated understanding of case management, assessment frameworks, and evidence-based practices related to child protection, parenting, family work, and domestic/family violence.

Communication and Conflict Resolution: Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and report writing skills, with the ability to impart knowledge and work collaboratively with stakeholders.

Accommodation and Housing Pathways: Experience or knowledge of accommodation and housing pathways to support families resettling into the community, as well as resources and homelessness services in Southeast Queensland.
