Senior Mine Planning Engineer

The ideal candidate for this role will be a seasoned professional with extensive experience in open pit engineering, particularly in planning and operational aspects. A strong understanding of mining and environmental approvals is essential.

This position requires the ability to design and schedule all facets of mine operations, serving as a key liaison between long-term and short-term planning functions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Budgeting and half-yearly mine planning and scheduling
  • Designing open pit mines, including waste dumps and surface infrastructure
  • Reviewing and updating general mine planning assumptions
  • Advancing capital projects from feasibility study to execution
  • Collaborating with long-term planners during strategic planning processes
  • Reviewing mine projects at various stages (scoping, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies)
  • Providing operational readiness support as needed
  • Maintaining cost models, including using software like XERAS
  • Delivering presentations and reports to diverse stakeholder groups
  • Analyzing mining contractor tenders, including equipment assumptions and reviews
  • Creating labor models for mining operations
  • Supporting senior planning engineers as required
  • Training and mentoring junior planning engineers
  • Assisting in annual mineral resources and ore reserve reporting processes
  • Developing, improving, and maintaining medium-term mine planning processes, including interfaces with long-term and short-term planners
  • Critically reviewing block model updates
  • Fostering stakeholder engagement, including with joint venture partners and mining contractors

Prior experience with mining software such as Alastri, Deswik, and Microsoft Office is highly desirable.

A comprehensive understanding of mining principles, coupled with excellent communication and project management skills, makes a successful candidate for this position.
