Assistant Director - Climate Change Policy

The National Greenhouse Accounts provide critical information on Australia's historical and projected greenhouse gas emissions, informing the design and tracking of domestic climate action and progress towards emissions reduction targets.

Australia's engagement in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) aims to ensure that the latest scientific, technical, and socio-economic knowledge relevant to climate change policy is incorporated into IPCC reports.

This role leads strategic design and delivery of Australia's IPCC engagement responsibilities, including measures to enhance Indigenous and Pacific nations' engagement in the IPCC. You will represent Australia in Plenary meetings and multilateral discussions with other governments and stakeholders on IPCC matters.

As Assistant Director, you will work closely with a small multi-disciplinary team to achieve this goal. The role requires strong organisational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic design and delivery of Australia's IPCC engagement responsibilities.
  • Represent Australia in Plenary meetings and multilateral discussions with other governments and stakeholders on IPCC matters.
  • Provide expert advice and briefing on IPCC processes and findings.
  • Support the work of the Branch to enable the Department to make evidence-based decisions and support domestic and international reporting responsibilities.
  • Manage a program officer to support the delivery of the IPCC work program.
