Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Commercial Lawyer to join our team at Xero. As a Senior Commercial Lawyer, you will play a key role in providing legal advice and support to our business, with a focus on commercial matters.

About the Role

In this exciting opportunity, you will work closely with our business stakeholders to provide legal advice on a wide range of commercial matters, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review. You will also be responsible for ensuring that our operations are compliant with relevant legislation and regulations.

As a Senior Commercial Lawyer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and initiatives, from negotiating complex commercial agreements to advising on regulatory compliance. You will also have the chance to develop your skills and expertise through training and professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and support to our business on commercial matters, including contract negotiation, drafting, and review.
  • Ensure that our operations are compliant with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Work closely with our business stakeholders to understand their needs and provide tailored legal solutions.
  • Negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements, including contracts and memoranda of understanding.
  • Advise on regulatory compliance and ensure that our business is up-to-date with the latest developments in this area.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including business leaders, lawyers, and other external advisors.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in the law and regulations affecting our business and provide guidance on these changes.
Requirements
  • 6-7 years PQE (in-house legal experience desirable).
  • Law degree.
  • Current practising certificate.
  • Experience negotiating & drafting agreements in a commercial context.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a commercially minded business partner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience providing legal advice to companies in the technology sector (desirable).
  • Experience with data protection regulation (desirable).
  • Experience liaising with regulators and statutory/law enforcement bodies (desirable).
  • Experience with financial services regulation (desirable).
