Lecturer in Medical Education

Deakin University is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join its team as an Education-focused Academic. This role is tailored for academics who are committed to teaching excellence and innovative educational practices.

The Faculty of Health at Deakin University is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching, learning, creativity, social development, and groundbreaking research and discovery. We work closely with industry partners and government bodies to translate discoveries into real-world impact.

This position will specifically be working within the School of Medicine, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to shaping and co-designing this new academic career pathway. As an Education-focused Academic, you will play a key role in promoting student-centered teaching, fostering a passion for teaching excellence, and pioneering innovative educational practices.

  • Teach within the Doctor of Medicine program, contributing to broader program developments through scholarship in your area of expertise.
  • Promote the school and establish and maintain links and partnerships with the academic, industry, and professional communities.
  • Make an independent contribution to the school and faculty's teaching, research, program development, and relevant service activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate excellent scholarly learning and teaching across the foundational years of the degree, and various modes (including cloud and clinical settings).
  • Contribute to the review of units and courses, implementing refinements.
  • Demonstrate emerging reputation in the scholarship of teaching and educational development through independent contribution to pedagogical research activity and publication in learning and teaching.
  • Assist in integrating new pedagogical research across all aspects of education.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline or other relevant qualifications in a health professional discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to undergraduate or postgraduate teaching programs in medical education, influencing, motivating, and inspiring students to learn.
  • Passion for teaching and learning.
  • Experience in contributing to curriculum and educational resource development reflecting an understanding of the clinical medicine landscape and emerging practices in medical education.
