Job Summary:

The Director of Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing will play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for students at St George Christian School. This position will lead the development and oversight of a protective behaviours curriculum, manage significant behavioural investigations, and work closely with staff, students, and parents to ensure the highest standards of student wellbeing are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation and ongoing development of a protective behaviours curriculum
  • Oversee significant behavioural investigations and facilitate the Exclusions Process
  • Manage and improve behaviour management processes and communicate effectively with parents and staff
  • Provide leadership for the Student Services Team, including Nurses and Chaplains
  • Oversee student wellbeing spaces, including suspension and timeout rooms
  • Respond to and follow up with students showing low attendance
  • Facilitate parent and community engagement events focused on pastoral care
  • Initiate and lead professional development for staff in effective classroom management and wellbeing practices

Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in education, pastoral care, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in leading pastoral care or student wellbeing programs within a Secondary School context
  • Proven ability to manage significant behavioural issues and investigations
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • In-depth knowledge of contemporary pastoral care and wellbeing strategies

Essential Criteria:

  • To have a personal faith and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ
  • To actively be a part of a Church or Christian community and exemplify Christian beliefs, behaviour, and practices
  • To accept the College's Statement of Faith
  • Build co-operative and supportive relationships with the board, principal, staff, students and parents
  • Work to ensure personal best practice
  • Ensure that decision making is based on fact and is impartial and fair
  • Model the use of appropriate and proper channels of communication
  • Always act in the best interest of the College and its ethos
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined by SCBC
  • First Aid certificate
  • Working with Children Card
