  • About the Role:
  • Critical leadership position driving day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the AER
  • Develop and execute the AER's Strategic Plan (2026–2030) and Corporate Plan
  • Embed a culture of performance, accountability, and innovation across the agency

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to achieve the AER's objectives and ensure alignment with government policies and regulations
  • Develop and manage budgets to ensure activities are conducted within approved parameters and aligned with strategic priorities
  • Lead and empower senior leadership teams, supervising performance, and fostering a high-performing culture
  • Maintain regular contact with the Chair to ensure timely communication of developments that might require board-level action
  • Oversee strategic and operational planning, identifying objectives and strategies required to achieve the AER's approved plan
  • Recommend significant operational changes to the Board as required, ensuring responsiveness to emerging challenges and opportunities
  • Ensure the Board is provided with accurate, timely, and clear information and materials, enabling effective governance and decision-making

Requirements:

  • Executive-level management experience in a complex public or private sector environment
  • Understanding of the operations of governments and regulators
  • Knowledge of Australian electricity and gas markets, and the role, purpose, and objectives of the AER
  • Proven ability to manage performance against budget, organisational change, operational risk, and lead innovation
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, economics / commerce, engineering, public policy, or related fields
