Aboriginal Child Protection Specialist

We are recruiting for various locations across the Murrumbidgee District to work as caseworkers who specialise in child protection.
Our primary goal is to ensure the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children or young people. By increasing the number of Aboriginal caseworkers, we can help more Aboriginal kids grow up safely at home with their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work sensitively and respectfully with parents, family members, children or young people to develop safe and supportive relationships.
- Collaborate effectively with other agencies and engage in complex problem-solving to achieve positive outcomes.
- Assist families in setting goals that align with their needs, addressing safety and well-being concerns, and provide appropriate assistance through home visits.
- Develop and implement safety plans, complete risk assessments, and manage cases and situations including working with high-needs and high-risk clients and their families.
- Be involved in court processes, including the preparation of court documents and attending court proceedings.
- Participate in individual and group supervision to ensure ongoing professional development.
Caseworking can be challenging at times, requiring tough decisions to be made with families to help them overcome difficulties and develop safe and loving homes for their children.
Requirements:
- A relevant diploma or degree qualification is preferred; however, applicants without a relevant qualification may still be considered if they have at least two years' experience working with vulnerable children, young people and their families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to build positive working relationships.
- A valid driver's licence and paid working with children clearance number.
- Documented verification of Aboriginality, confirming that you are an Aboriginal person of Aboriginal descent and that you identify as being Aboriginal.
This role is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons. There are two alternatives to confirming your Aboriginality: completion of a confirmation of Aboriginality form or written confirmation from 2-3 Aboriginal organisations within the community in which you live/work.
