About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all employees, contractors, athletes, officials, and visitors at our venues. Your primary focus will be on supporting our operational teams in delivering safe venues, conducting regular safety checks and audits, and driving continuous improvement in the identification and management of health and safety risks, incidents, and hazards.
Key Responsibilities- Health and Safety Guidance: Provide expert advice and guidance to operational staff on health and safety matters, ensuring regulatory compliance through day-to-day audits and checks, and supporting the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and event risk plans.
- Fire and Emergency Management: Contribute to the development and implementation of fire and emergency management plans, including the recruitment and training of wardens, and leading safety drills and preparations across all venues.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze operational data in collaboration with management to support reporting, and contribute to staff training on health and safety responsibilities.
- Health and Safety Support: Serve as a key contact for health and safety matters, offering ongoing support and coaching to staff across all Melbourne Sports Centres venues.
- Proven Experience: Proven experience in implementing health and safety strategies and initiatives to improve risk management outcomes.
- Risk Management and Compliance: Familiarity with risk management, health and safety regulation, and compliance frameworks, with experience in the sports and/or venues industries being desirable.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to influence others without formal authority.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Sound Judgment and Integrity: Sound judgment, personal integrity, and the ability to work independently.
- Self-Awareness and Adaptability: Self-awareness with the ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively use constructive feedback.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Current Licenses and Checks: Current Victorian Driver's Licence and Working with Children Check.
