Leading Hand Carpenter - Switchroom Projects

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Leading Hand with a Carpentry background to join our workshop team. This is a full-time opportunity based in our Thornton and Rutherford Workshops, with an immediate requirement to lead a major project in Rutherford.

As a Leading Hand Carpenter, you will take charge of a small crew, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and to a high standard. While you'll be hands-on in the workshop, your main responsibility will be to coordinate, guide, and support your team across a variety of Switchroom projects for industries including mining, renewables, water treatment, and aviation.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Supervising and motivating carpenters and trade assistants
  • Allocating tasks and monitoring progress
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and 5S housekeeping standards
  • Coordinating with other trades such as Electricians and Boilermakers
  • Performing quality checks and providing on-the-job training
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Carpentry Trade Certificate III
  • 3+ years in construction, with at least 2 years in a leading hand or supervisory role
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills
  • Ability to interpret drawings and meet deadlines
  • Personal hand tools and a current Driver Licence (required)
  • Relevant tickets (Forklift, EWP, Dogman, Confined Space) highly regarded
