About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Platform Engineer to join our team at the Reserve Bank of Australia. As a key member of our Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the design, development, and implementation of cloud and on-premise IT infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to the Core Modernisation project and Platform Engineering team with a focus on Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define frameworks, guardrails, and IT controls to ensure solutions are consistent, optimised, and adhere to IT security policies and standards.
  • Mentor other staff to increase the knowledge across the Platform Engineering team.
  • Collaborate with others to promote and integrate the use of Infrastructure Engineering using code.
  • Work with principal technologists, IT architects, managers and leads to uplift standard coding practices and quality controls used across IT Infrastructure.
  • Be responsible for the maturity and implementation of Infrastructure as Code practices.
  • Identify and implement standard practices for such things as unit testing, documentation, and release management in the IT infrastructure space.
  • Deliver solution documentation, operational assessments, and review technical documentation created by internal and external teams.
  • Present at meetings to peers and senior stakeholders to inform and educate on Platform Engineering subjects ensuring the content is appropriate for the audience.
About You

We are looking for a highly experienced and skilled individual with a strong background in IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and DevOps. You will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 4 years of hands-on experience as a subject matter expert in Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD, using infrastructure automation tools Terraform and Puppet. You will also have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a lead or principal capacity within Infrastructure Engineering.

You will be a confident and excellent written and verbal communicator with leadership qualities, and have a mindset that challenges through intelligent enquiry, yet accepts some things can't change as we are a regulated entity. You will be enthusiastic about change, and want to help make things better. You will look to complete tasks the right way, not necessarily the fastest or easiest way. You will be innovative, creative, and enthusiastic about your subject matter.
