Job Description

As a postdoctoral research fellow, you will contribute to the development of a fully contained growth capsule for deployment on the moon. This project aligns with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space.

Your key tasks will include method development for sample fixation and preservation, analysis of plant cell wall material from limited samples, and exploration of vegetative growth and seed dormancy. You will also co-supervise PhD students and Honours students.

Outputs will include methods for growing, fixing, and analysing plant material for cell wall composition, establishing a ground analogue system, and contributing to a successful multi-national team.

This role will help achieve the goal of reimagining plant design and bio-resource production for long-term habitation in space and solving sustainability challenges on Earth.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skills in plant molecular biology, synthetic biology, and bioinformatics.
  • Understanding of plant cell wall biology.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well independently and as part of a team, including with industrial partners.
  • Ability to travel overseas and attend meetings out of hours.
