Structural Design Expert

The role of a Structural Design Expert involves working on diverse projects, applying technical expertise to deliver exceptional results.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and analysing structural elements and systems for naval ships. This includes:

  • Hull structure (plating, primary and secondary members)
  • Equipment foundations (major and minor)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-level engineering technical competence based on relevant experience and knowledge
  • Completing structural systems design for naval ship systems, applying robust systems engineering process
  • Performing first-principles structural calculations to required standards
  • Undertaking technical investigations, root cause analysis and solution identification
  • Delivering technical reports and documentation in accordance with established standards
  • Working effectively within the broader team to engage with different disciplines in the development of new naval ship system designs
  • Providing assistance to and mentoring graduate structural engineers
  • Planning and coordinating assigned engineering projects from concept through to delivery

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Naval Architecture or Aeronautical Engineering
  • Proven skills and experience in Structural or Naval Architecture function
  • Experience in a technical and industrial Defence environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of structures and material properties
  • Experience in Finite Element Modelling and Analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening and decision-making skills
  • Ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to manage, prioritise and complete multiple tasks concurrently

Requirements:

We are seeking individuals who possess a strong foundation in structural design principles, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in Finite Element Modelling and Analysis is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team are essential. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to operate autonomously, make sound decisions, and deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
