Retail Energy Regulatory Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Energy Lawyer to join an in-house team in the retail energy sector, specialising in the regulatory aspects of the industry.
This role involves advising on compliance with energy legislation, codes, and guidelines, engaging with regulators, and supporting the business in implementing regulatory changes.
- Provide expert legal advice on National Energy Retail Law, Rules, and relevant state-based regulations.
- Advise on compliance with Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and Essential Services Commission (ESC) requirements.
- Support development and implementation of regulatory compliance frameworks and policies.
- Review and draft contracts, customer terms, and other retail documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and prepare impact assessments for the business.
- Liaise with regulators, industry bodies, and external stakeholders on regulatory matters.
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission to practise in Australia.
- 8+ years' post-admission experience in energy law, with a strong focus on retail energy regulation.
- In-depth knowledge of National Energy Retail Law and Rules, AER guidelines, and related state-based frameworks.
- Proven experience engaging with regulators and advising on compliance obligations.
- Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
