Student Support SpecialistRole Overview

The Student Support Specialist plays a pivotal role in fostering student growth and development by providing targeted support to students experiencing social, emotional or family-related difficulties.

This position is focused on working with senior secondary students (Years 11-12) and their families to promote mental health, strengthen family connections, improve attendance, and support successful post-school transitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver individual and group support sessions to help students overcome barriers to learning and engagement.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop tailored support plans that cater to each student's unique needs.
  • Collaborate closely with families and external agencies to ensure seamless support and guidance for students.
  • Provide early intervention services to prevent issues from escalating, as well as case management support to help students navigate complex situations.
  • Develop re-engagement strategies to support students at risk of disengagement or poor attendance.
  • Foster relationships with external services, including mental health providers, housing agencies, AOD support groups, and youth organizations, to facilitate referrals and access to necessary resources.
  • Participate actively in Student Support Group meetings and contribute to care team planning.
  • Manage critical incidents and crisis intervention processes with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with departmental and professional standards.
  • Advocate effectively for students' needs within the school and broader community.
  • Support Year 12 students with transition planning to further education, training or employment.
