Ecological Expert Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Ecologist or Botanist to lead ecological assessments, environmental approvals, and contribute to conservation planning. The successful candidate will provide expert advice on various projects in Victoria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and delivering ecological survey programs tailored to client needs.
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports, including ecological impact assessment and vegetation mapping.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.
  • Providing expert advice on Victorian and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation.
  • Supporting junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with client and regulator needs.
  • Preparing project proposals and tender submissions.
  • Assisting in the preparation of expert evidence.
  • Building relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies, and researchers.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and Victorian policy framework.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A current and valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work in NSW and knowledge of NSW legislation.
  • Accreditation or experience undertaking audit programs.
