The Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead and manage a team of solicitors in the Statewide Child Protection Litigation Office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice, conducting litigation, and instructing and appearing in court on behalf of the Secretary to the department. They will also play a key role in the management of staff and contribute to the development of long-term plans to improve legal services and client outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Provide authoritative advice on complex legal and policy issues, including cross-government legal policy considerations.
- Lead the delivery of high-quality, client-focused, and cost-effective legal services in relation to highly complex and sensitive matters.
- Appear or instruct in litigation involving highly complex matters for the department in a wide range of courts and tribunals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child protection law and policy, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills. They will also have the ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to the development of long-term plans to improve legal services and client outcomes.
