Job Description

We are seeking a skilled CG lighting artist to join our team on various projects.

This is a long-term contract position requiring an immediate start. The successful candidate will work in Brisbane, Australia, with visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.

The CG lighting artist will report directly to the lighting leads, creating natural phenomena for live-action feature films. Applicants with highly realistic work in their portfolio will be reviewed with priority.

The ideal candidate is a professional artist who works collaboratively with the team and other departments. They must be excellent time managers and forward thinkers, delivering work to schedule and brief.

Previous experience with lighting and rendering assets generated by Houdini effects artists, modellers, texture artists, and animators is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Light and render small and large-scale CG elements using Katana or Houdini and SolidAngle's Arnold.
  • Provide solutions for techniques such as subsurface scattering and physically plausible shading.
  • Use HDRI information to match a live-action plate with CG elements.
  • Strong emphasis on optimising and troubleshooting renders, providing feedback to departments upstream and render wranglers.
  • Work closely with compositors, ensuring the renders meet their expectations.
  • Follow creative & technical briefs with regard to the production schedule.
  • Take ownership of all notes and feedback relating to shots.
  • Iterate work as directed by the lead and within allocated resources.
  • Ensure the lead and coordinator are kept up-to-date of any issues that may hinder meeting deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with peers, assisting when requested.
  • Maintain consistency across sequences and shots.
  • Adept at methodical approach to lighting setups.
  • Provide clear and accurate time estimates for all work assigned.

Required skills and experience include knowledge of Katana and/or Houdini, applicants demonstrating shots lit & rendered using Arnold equivalent physically based renderers, basic knowledge of physically plausible shading techniques, and a strong understanding of Linux-based operating systems.
